Highlighting the major differences between this (Battlefield) Chen Taijiquan and later versions of this art, is this combat application on High Pat on Horse.
The purpose of this move, back during the ancient days of fighting with swords, shields and horses, is to take a horse down or literally flip it over as illustrated by Atrkins Lai in this video, recorded in circa 2004 to 2005.
It should be noted that this "high pat on horse" is much different than what you may have seen in styles of Taijiquan.
